Reuben Crowfeather Jr. part of the Southern Ojibwe Native American wears a feathered war bonnet which two black and white eagle tail feathers represented the dancer and and the eagle. The story he was told that when the two feathers danced together they were sending a message to the eagle in appreciation of its existence. Audrey Schank, a junior at Central high school posed for a photo on Wednesday April 27, 2016 in St. Joseph, Missouri at the St. Joseph News-Press. Schank has been swimming every day for the past five to seven years and in the summer she swims twice a day with crossfit once a day. The Central junior swimmer captured third place in the 100-yard backstroke at the MSHSSA Girls State Swimming Championships. Schank competed in the finals of the same event last year, with heartbreaking results. She was disqualified for going past vertical on her turn but this year proved to be different for the All News-Press swimmer of the year. “I have one more year to go out there and prove myself,” Schank said. “To myself, most importantly, but also to others how my hard work has paid off and how swimming year-round has paid off.” (© Dougal Brownlie | St. Joseph News-Press).
